Board Size
A larger blocker board offers more coverage for deflections. Check your league's maximum board size regulations before choosing – especially at senior and competitive levels.
Hand Protection
Look for blockers with well-padded finger and thumb protection. Higher-end models use multi-density foams to absorb shot impact without adding unnecessary bulk.
Mobility
A good blocker should allow full wrist and stick movement. Look for a flexible wrist strap and a board angle that suits your blocker-side deflection style.
Matched Sets
Most goalies match their blocker with their catch glove for consistent protection, weight balance and aesthetics. Mixing brands works fine if both fit correctly.
The blocker should fit snugly around the hand and wrist without restricting stick movement. The board should sit flush against the back of the hand and not tilt or shift when you move your wrist.
