How to Select Kickpoint

Published 17th April 2024

In short, the kickpoint of a hockey stick can be defined as where the hockey stick flexes the most.

Most major brands (such as CCM, Bauer, True, and Warrior) all have at least two or three different “families” of kickpoints. They are:

* Low Kick: Stick flexes at the bottom third of the shaft. A great option for players wanting to get the puck off their blade as quickly as possible. Quick snapshots and wristshots up close to the goalie. Examples include the families of the Bauer Vapor, CCM Ribcor, True Hzrdus, and Warrior Covert.

* Mid Kick: Stick flexes at the middle of the shaft. A great option for players wanting to achieve maximum power, usually by powerful slapshots. Great for defensemen or players with heavy shots. Examples include the CCM Tacks, Warrior Novium, True Catalyst.

* Hybrid/Customized Kick: Flexes where the bottom hand is during loading and shooting. This is a great option that offers both good quickness and power in the shots, for great versatility. Players of any position can utilize a stick like this. The CCM Jetspeed is the only stick with this option!

Finding the “right” stick kickpoint is all a matter of preference and can take some time to determine which one works best for you. The position you play, the shot type you take the most, and upper body strength will all factor in to which one you go with.

Discovering the perfect kick point for your hockey stick involves aligning it with your unique playing style. Whether you prioritize speed, control, power, or a blend of these attributes, there's a kick point tailored to enhance your performance.

For those seeking lightning-fast releases, the Low kick option is the way to go. Its design facilitates rapid shots, ideal for players who thrive on quick puck movement.

Defensemen and players focusing on control and power in their shots will find the Mid kick option most suitable. This kick point provides stability and leverage, allowing for powerful and accurate shots from the blue line or in close-quarters play.

If you're aiming for a balance of speed, control, and power, the Hybrid kick point offers the best of both worlds. It combines elements of both Low and Mid kick points, catering to players who demand versatility in their gameplay.

By understanding your playing style and preferences, you can make an informed decision to optimize your performance with the perfect kick point selection for your hockey stick.
