How to Size
Measure from the bicep to the wrist, then bend your arm – the elbow cap should sit centered on the elbow point. Pads should not slide when your arm is fully extended or flexed.
Protection Level
Higher-end pads use harder outer caps and multi-density foams for better impact absorption. Recreational players can opt for softer, more flexible pads for everyday comfort.
Mobility
Low-profile elbow pads allow a greater range of motion for stickhandling and shooting. Look for segmented designs that flex with your arm without shifting out of place.
Strapping
Most elbow pads use velcro straps on the bicep and forearm. A snug fit prevents rotation – but make sure straps don't cut into the arm during play.
The elbow cap should sit directly on your elbow point. The pad should stay in place when you skate and shoot without rotating or sliding. Straps should be snug but not restrictive.
If your shoulder pads already have integrated arm protection, you may not need separate elbow pads. However, many players prefer the better fit and protection of dedicated elbow pads even when wearing integrated shoulder pads.
Elbow pad sizes are typically based on arm length and bicep circumference. Check each brand's size chart and measure your arm with a slight bend to get the most accurate result.
If you are between sizes, sizing up generally gives better coverage. However, a pad that is too large may shift during play. If possible, try both sizes on and move your arm through a full range of motion to check stability.
