Description

The Bauer Vapor FLYLITE Senior Goalie Stick is the elite goalie stick for the elite goaltender wanting to hold the game in their hands with light-as-air feel. With TeXtreme Carbon Fiber Paddle, QuadAIR Bridge, Hybrid Toe and PentaGrip handle, FLYLITE is light as AIR — 555g in a beautifully balanced design.

AIRMax Paddle + QuadAIR Bridge

The AIRMax Paddle with QuadAIR Bridge makes the stick light enough to pull off impulsive saves in the blink of an eye. TeXtreme Carbon Fiber Paddle delivers lightweight carbon weave that balances without sacrificing strength — you become one with the stick.

Hybrid Toe — square top, rounded bottom

The Hybrid Toe uses a square top to stop hard rims and a rounded bottom to help you pull pucks off the boards and dish to teammates flying up the ice. This is the exact design detail that transforms goaltenders into the engine for breakouts.

PentaGrip Handle + EXPANCEL Core Blade

The PentaGrip design above the paddle helps keep the stick well-positioned in your hand during saves. The TeXtreme Carbon Fiber Blade with EXPANCEL Core is lightweight and resilient — Expancel foam dampens vibrations on shot impacts.

Buying Guide

Goalie Sticks

Choose the right paddle length and shaft length based on your height and stance — sizing is personal and there is no single right answer.

This guide is general and based on widely accepted guidelines. Individual stance, preferences and playing style can vary significantly — use this as a starting point.

The three measurements that guide your choice

A
Paddle Length

The distance from the blade heel to the bottom of the shaft. The most important measurement — determines coverage in the butterfly position.

B
Total Shaft Length

From blade heel to the top of the shaft. Rule of thumb: the shaft should reach the shoulder when standing upright with skates on. Affects passing ability and reach.

C
Butterfly Check

Stand in butterfly with skates on. The blocker side should sit parallel to the leg pad — no gap inside and nothing sticking out beyond the edge.

Segment

The right segment for your age and height

Paddle length is listed in inches and is the primary choice. The ranges below are starting points — always choose based on how the stick actually sits on the ice.

YouthBeginner goalieApprox. ages 5–8
Paddle
18–20 inches
Goalie height
under 140 cm

The shortest paddle for the youngest goalies. The key is that the blade lies flat on the ice without the shaft angling up — go shorter rather than longer to maintain full control.

JuniorGrowing goalieApprox. ages 8–12
Paddle
21–22 inches
Goalie height
140–160 cm

A Junior paddle suits most young goalies at primary school age. The paddle should cover the ice in front of the skate without being too heavy or hard to handle.

IntermediateTeen goalieApprox. ages 11–14
Paddle
23–24 inches
Goalie height
155–175 cm

Intermediate is the right segment for rapidly growing goalies. Choose a paddle towards the shorter end if the goalie is still growing — a paddle that is too long reduces control in the butterfly.

SeniorAdult goalieApprox. age 14 and up
Paddle
24–27 inches
Goalie height
170 cm and above

The Senior range is wide. Most adult goalies start around 25–26" and adjust from there. A longer paddle gives more coverage but requires more strength and control to use effectively.

TipThe easiest check: stand in butterfly with skates on. The blocker side of the stick should sit parallel to the leg pad — no gap inside and nothing extending past the outer edge.

Stance

How your stance affects your choice

There is no universally correct paddle length — it depends on how you stand and play.

Stance Effect Recommendation
Upright stance Higher centre of gravity, more stand-up play Can work with a shorter paddle — better control
Lower stance Low centre of gravity, more butterfly-focused Longer paddle gives better butterfly coverage
Wide butterfly Legs wide apart in butterfly Longer paddle + more thigh rise on leg pads
Tight butterfly Close five-hole seal Standard length works — focus on shaft stiffness

NoteThese are general guidelines. Younger and less experienced goalies should prioritise control and manoeuvrability over maximum coverage — a stick that is too long is harder to manage and can create poor movement habits.

Shaft & Flex

Shaft length and flex

Beyond the paddle, shaft length and stiffness affect control and passing ability.

Parameter Guideline Effect
Shaft length Blade heel to shoulder when upright with skates Too short = hard to pass; too long = poor control on clearances

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my paddle length is correct? +

Stand in butterfly position with skates on. The blocker side should sit parallel to the leg pad without extending beyond the outer edge (too short) or leaving a gap inside (too long). This is the most reliable real-world test.

Should the shaft reach my shoulder? +

Yes, that is the common rule of thumb — from the blade heel to the top of the shaft should reach the shoulder when standing upright with skates on. It gives a good balance between reach and control. But stance and playing style can justify deviating from this.

Should younger goalies choose a shorter stick? +

Yes, always prioritise control. A stick that is too long leads to poor movement patterns and makes it harder to learn proper fundamentals. It is better to choose the right size now rather than trying to grow into an oversized stick.

Does brand affect sizing? +

Paddle length in inches is consistent across brands. However, the shaft's kick point, stiffness and overall feel can differ significantly. Try in store where possible — the feel in the hand matters a great deal for a goalie.
