Buying Guide
Paddle Length
Intermediate paddles run 23"–24". Measure from the ice to the hip in your stance. Goalies near the top of this range may be ready for senior sizing.
Construction
Intermediate sticks use composite blends offering a good balance of weight and durability – well suited for developing goalies playing regularly at club level.
Blade Curve
A neutral blade curve is the best all-round choice for intermediate goalies still developing their puck-handling and outlet passing skills.
When to Move Up
If the paddle feels short or you are near the top of the intermediate range, try senior sizing. Senior sticks offer more length options and better performance materials.
Stand in your goalie stance and measure from the ice to your hip. This gives you your paddle length. Intermediate sticks run 23"–24" – if you exceed this range, it is time to look at senior sizing.
When your hip-to-ice measurement exceeds 24" or the paddle feels too short for comfortable play, move to senior sizing. Senior sticks start at 25" and offer a wider selection of models.
Tape the blade with cloth tape from heel to toe in overlapping strips. Add grip tape to the knob for a secure hold. Replace tape regularly to maintain consistent puck feel.
Composite intermediate sticks are generally more durable than pro-level carbon sticks. With regular use, expect a season or more of life depending on how often the goalie trains and plays.
